DML TECHNOLOGY - THE HOME STEREO REINVENTED

Distributed Mode Loudspeaker (DML) technology is a new class of loudspeaker in which the resonant modes of a panel are optimally excited by a transducer (exciter) to deliver a remarkable diffuse sound field over a wide audio frequency bandwidth.

Each SoundArt flat panel speaker system comprises a specialist lightweight, yet very strong composite panel material, which vibrates in the same way as the bodies of natural musical instruments (for example the acoustic guitar, violin or piano). These vibrations recreate a diffuse source of sound energy which is emitted in a far less directional manner and one capable of filling a space far more evenly than a conventional loudspeaker. This diffuse source creates a high definition sound field over a very wide area ensuring that surround sound or a stereo sound field is heard whatever the room, and wherever the listening position.

SOUNDART V THE CONVENTIONAL

The following diagrams show that unlike a conventional speaker you are not restricted to where the speaker must sit within a room to create a stereo sound:

Traditional Speaker Array
Traditional loudspeakers create a directional sound wave so their placement is critical; they are not flexible to the aesthetics of a space. The image above shows that sound from a conventional speaker is like a light beam and must cross to create a stereo sound. You can see why, in the past, to fill a room with even sound, the only option has been to use several speakers or larger speakers to fill a space with an even sound. How often have you been standing in a room where you only hear one of the speakers, until you have walked into the centre of the room and you hear what we call the “the sweet-spot”.

A SoundArt system does not work on the same principle. It radiates sound through vibration, just like the violin or guitar that creates its rich acoustic sound through vibration.

The benefit of creating a sound wave through vibration is that, like daylight, it fills every corner of the room; therefore the positioning of the speaker is far less critical, so they can be placed where they look good. More importantly, virtually the entire room then becomes the sweet-spot.

So, whether the room is small and narrow or large and wide, the SoundArt system will enhance the most demanding of interior environments.

ECHO & REVERBERATION
Conventional loudspeakers create sound in such a way that it generally reflects off hard surfaces, which creates a variety of problems. The end result in most instances is an uncomfortable sound, just as you may have experienced in a modern bar or restaurant where the music may not be loud but you still struggle to hear conversations as well as the music itself.

SoundArt radiates sound through vibration which produces significantly less reverberation and room response. The result is a full sound that fills the room and delivers a widely dispersed stereo soundstage for everyone to enjoy a clear and natural acoustic sound, while not missing out on the conversation. In your home the disadvantages of the traditional loudspeakers are felt most noticeably in rooms such as the kitchen or conservatory: rooms which have many hard surfaces. In rooms with mainly soft furnishings like the bedrooms or lounge, the system is easy to adjust for equal performance. Because we all live in such contrasting environments, there is only one solution which will not compromise the sound, look and feel…SoundArt.

FILLING A ROOM WITH SOUND
One last but important difference is the Sound Pressure Level (S.P.L) or the volume as it is commonly known. You may have already noticed that when you move away from a conventional loudspeaker the fall-off is dramatic. We have all, at some point in our life been seated in a restaurant directly under the speaker. The noise can be sometimes deafening for you while the diners at the other side of the room barely hear a sound. The fall-off of S.P.L from a SoundArt speaker is negligible. The volume selected will be maintained over a greater distance and will create a more even soundstage, no matter where you are seated.
